Black Beach Riding Retreat

A farm stay in the comfortable and charming old farm house of Grimsstadir.
Day 1: Taking the herd
On the first day we ride from Grimsstadir with a herd of loose horses along the grassy banks of Holsa river and we will be surrounded by magnificent views, with the volcano Hekla ahead of us and Eyjafjallajökull to our right. Our first riding day ends at the farm Bakksakot, where our horses will be staying until the next morning. The riders return to Grimsstadir where dinner will be served and they stay for the night. Day 2: Back to the sea
We ride from Bakkakot towards the South on a different route, with views of the South, the Westman Islands and Eyjafjallajokull glacier (to the left). Grassy paths to go in endless tölt and we take the herd again with us. We end in Grimsstadir again for dinner and a well deserved rest (app. 15 km)
Day 3: Let the sea set you free
Today we leave the herd home and ride from Grimsstaðir down to the smooth pitch-black beach and ride along the beach to Holsar‘s river estuaries enjoying the views and feeling the horses further come to life along the smooth sand... 10-12 km
Ride back to Grimsstaðir and drive back to Reykjavik
