Tindfjallajokull

As history lurks nearly every step of the way we ride and we get to see the mighty glacier-fed river Markarfljót. Ride along with a herd between the three mighty glaciers, Eyjafjallajökull, Mýrdalsjökull, and Tindfjallajökull, which will be on our left throughout the tour.

While we ride with the herd of horses, we enjoy the view of Mt. Þórólfsfell which is partially covered with coarse ash from the Hekla eruption of 1947 and with fine ash from the Eyjafjallajökull eruption of 2010.

As we ride west on the far slopes of Tindfjallajökull glacier, we ride paths that take us into a magical world, so fair, into the highland that moves our hearts, and dares us to take in the troll-like atmosphere, and whispers its offer to become one with it; join it completely. Still embraced by the brisk, ruffled highland we continue through the wonderland as it lets us float through the landscape on our surefooted horses. 

We ride by the fountain of the river as we descend towards a deserted farm, looking over to Iceland’s most active volcano Hekla; that locals believed were the doors to Hell.
