Day 2 .. Torfastaðir - Heiðabær

After breakfast and lunch-pack making, we meet the horses and start the ride towards the great Lake of Þingvallavatn. We ascend up to an old secluded sheep paddock on the hills and then we ride towards farm Villingavatn, where we change horses. From here we ride with views to the mountains and volcanoes,  along the lake to Nesjavellir farm, where we see the big steam column from a power plant in the bottom of the valley, towered by the ancient volcano Mt. Hengill. After changing horses we ride the Jórukleif pass up to the heathland that provides us with soft mud paths, excellent for our tölting horses. At  farm Heiðabær we call it a day.  Bus back to Torfastaðir Guesthouse. 33 km. 5-6 hours.

Day 3 .. Heiðabær - Skógarhólar - National Park

From Heiðarbær we ride north on the fabulous paths of the heathland. Mts. Ármannsfell, Botnssúlur and Hrafnabjörg seem close, but further away we see the sleeping giant, volcano Skjaldbreiður, close to the Langjökull glacier. At Skógarhólar in the vicinity  of Þingvellir, where the ancient Icelandic parliament Alþingi was founded in 930, we’ll change horses. Then we leave the herd and go riding through the National Park. Into a canyon and through the woods to deserted farms, a quite lovely experience, returning back to Skógarhólar.  32 km. 5-6 hours.

Day 4 .. Skógarhólar - Cave - Kringlumýri
From Þingvellir we'll ride beautiful paths through the wood clad lava field with mountain hut Kringlumýri as our destination. Now heading east with the great lake and the majestic Hengill volcano to our right. On our left we have an  even greater volcano, Skjaldbreiður, which created the lava field we are actually riding, so many years ago. We leave the herd at Kringlumýri while riding to visit The Cave People, that will tell us the story of the people who lived in the Laugarvatn Cave early in the last century. Bus back to Torfastaðir Guesthouse. 32 km. 5-6 hours.

Day 5 .. Kringlumýri - Torfastaðir
Today we’ll ride on the slopes of Lyngdalsheiði, a cone-shaped hill created by ancient volcano Þrasaborgir, descending to lake Þingvallavatn. We cross the river Sogið on a dam, finding our way towards Mt. Hengill again. We'll make a pit stop at the same paddock we visited the first day, and finally we'll end the tour at Torfastaðir.  27 km. 5-6 hours
