Day 1

27/6

Reykjavik-Stóri Kálfalækur

Today we start pickup in Reykjavik around 17:30 and then we go by bus transfer to Stóri Kálfalækur where we have dinner, get to know each other and prepare our tack for the next day.

Day 2
28/6
Dalur-Kolviðarnes

We start the day with breakfast and preparing lunch bags before we head out to meet the horses, who have been resting in a field about half an hour away. We begin our ride by making our way through lavafields and sparse vegetation towards the beautiful and inviting yellow sand beaches where the beat of the tölting horses mix with the sound of waves crashing on the beach. This is truly a magnificent view, however it soon changes to the famous empty ocean floors where the tide leaves the black sand wet and inviting for good tölt. We continue in the fjords making our way to Kolviðarness, where the horses will rest for the night while we head back to Stóri Kálfalækur farm.

Riding distance: approximately 30 km.

Day 3
29/6
Kolviðarnes-Stóri Kálfalækur

Today's ride is dependent on the tide as we start the by crossing Haffjarðará. The stream becomes a roaring river when the tide is high and fills it up but is a crossable stream when the tide is out. With Siggi's expertise and knowledge of the area we will cross the stream safely and head out to more riding along the edge of the Eldborg volcano's lavafield. We continue in the empty fjords where the tide leaves small streams and inlets in the everchanging scenery. Keep an eye out for the eagles as they like to hunt for fish that got trapped when the tide left the fjords. In the evening we arrive back at Stóri Kálfalækur with the horses, and we head inside for a last dinner together and celebration of Olöf and Siggi with singing and dancing in good company.

Riding distance: approximately 35-40 km
