Ride to Landsmot

  1/7               Stori Kalfalækur – Grímsstaðir (25 km) – drive back to Stori Kalfalækur where we will spend the night
After an introduction to the Icelandic horse and its special gaits, we start our ride into the mountains through fertile farmlands. We ride through grasslands and cross rocky grounds at the foot of a mountain range. First stop for horse changing is at an old sheep round-up paddock. 
2/7               Grimsstaðir – Heggsstaðir (27 km) – On our second day we start to ride alongside the mountain ridge and then turn South, with the majestic black Hafnarfjall in front of us and chances to see Eiriksjoekull to our left. We ride on beautiful riding paths and cross Hvita river close to the fjord.
We leave the horses at a farm paddock and drive back to Stori Kalfalækur where we will spend the night
3/7               Heggstaðir – Fitjar (28 km) – After a last breakfast at Stori-Kafalaekur we drive to our horses andget ready for a day entering the mountains. We cross the Hesthals pass and ride alongside the long lake (20 km) Skorradalsvatn until we reach our hut for the night. 
4/7               Fitjar – Skógarhólar (37 km) Today will lead usdeep into the Western Highlands. We ride follow the lava fields of the shield volcano Skjaldbreidur, a 9000 year old volcano whos lava streams have formed the bassin of lake Thingvallavatn to the South. We will have views of the impressive glaciers Langjoekull and Thorisjoekull to our left and will also see Ok: the mountain who lost his status as a glacier in 2019. The landscape changes from moon like vastness to the bright green of the birch trees once we arrive in Skogarholar in the Thingvellir National Park. (Hut Kringlumyri£
5/7               Skogarholar – Helgadalur (32 km) – Our last day will lead us up on the high plain of Mosfellsheidi through lava fields and past lakes with the view of the ocean to the front, Esja mountain range to the right and Hengill volcano to the left. There is no better way to arrive in Reykjavik to celebrate Landsmot! We will go to the exquisite baths in Hvammsvik before we return to Skogarholar for the last night.

6/7 Return to Reykjavik

WHAT IS INCLUDED

Bus transfer from Reykjavík to the farm.

During the ride full board is provided. Our menu consists of a large breakfast and traditional Icelandic meals (fish or lamb). Vegetarian meals are available if requested when booking. All riders make their own packed lunch from the breakfast table.

Alcoholic beverages are not included in the tour price.

Rain wear, water bottle, saddle bag, riding helmet.

ATTENTION

Individual travel insurance is not included in the tour price. We encourage clients to obtain relevant travel insurance before visiting Iceland.

Flight to and from Iceland is not included.
