Day 1. Reykjavík – Skaftatunga

Pick up and drive

4 September: Let´s get our feet wet (Hrífunes –
Höfðabrekka/Kerlingadalur)

We drive up to meet with our herd on a field in Skaftatunga.
Today we will cross the extensive black sand desert of Myrdalssandur and cross
some glacial streams on the way. We end in Kerlingardalur. (app. 35 km)

5 September: Island in the sun: Today we ride towards the
east and take loop around Hjörleifshöfði, a 200 meter high landmark with  it’s famous Ýoda cave’. We might even let the
horses climb a bit up the mountain to enjoy a better view before we return to
Kerlingadalur. (app. 25 km)

6 September: Into the Wild mountains (Kerlingadalur – Þakgil
– Heiði)

Today will take us deeper into the mountain ranges South of
Myrdalsjökull. We cross a high plateau and venture deep into the gorges From
there, ride to Heiði through the gorges at Höfðabrekkuheiði, including Þakgil.
This is a magical environment that will transport us straight into a Lord of
the Rings movie. (app. 35 km)

7 September: The (in)famous Black Beach

We will ride out of the mountains and down to the infamous
Black Beach (Reynisfjara). We will cross the lagoon and ride up the cliffs and
across Dyrhóley, and the sandbanks of Klifanda, and end in Pétursey. (app. 30km)

8 September: Between glacier and the ocean (Pétursey – Skálakot /Fornusandar)

This morning we take it easy or go on (Zip Line, glacier
hike, paraglide, a snow mobile trip up on the glacier on Mýrdalsjökull), while
the horses could be herded along the road to Jökulsá on Sólheimasandur. We join
our herd there and ride down to the shore at Skógasandur and ride along the
coast under the mountains and end close to Seljalandsfoss. (app. 35-40 km).

9 September: Driving back to Reykjavik

Sightseeing towards glacier lagoon (full day): We
would just charge our cost on that (driving, fuel, parking fees), so app.
500-600 Euro for the full group. We could leave that to decide until later or
keep it optional for a bad weather day
